Let's have a great last-game-of-the-year!

Practice tonight!

Hey guys.

We'll be in the gym tonight at John Muir from 5:30-6:30.  Even if the fields are open, we'll be using the gym.

It will be dry and warm and we can get a good run in.  I will be leaving early from work so will hopefully be there by 5:30 too:)

This week

Hey everyone,

Thanks to those that made it out to the school for practice last night.  Unfortunately, the club was only able to secure that time for us in that gym so we'll do the best we can in the gym from 5:30-6:30 on Tuesday's.  I'll try to get off work earlier than usual to get there on time.

Kim will have game details out to you soon and I'll post them here for you as well.

Tidalwaves were Terrific!!!

It was a very solid game today played by both teams.  Our Tidalwaves did a very good job passing the ball around.  Our forwards did well to stay up the field and get open so the defenders could pass the ball up to them.

It was tough to defend that Gorge team at times as they always had a couple forwards up waiting for a through ball to be played and we got caught a few times with our defenders pushing up on the attack and not recovering quickly enough.

Midfield has got to cover the whole field so it is a very tough position to play.  Midfield rarely gets to walk and rest on the field as they are responsible for attacking as well as defnding.

Overall it was a very good effort and a nailbiting victory that entertained our many fans!

GAME ON!

Hey guys!  Fields are open so we'll see you all at 9:30!

Bring it on!!!

Game Saturday

Hey guys!  Happy (american) Thanksgiving and good luck to those of you going to do some Black Friday shopping!

Our game is on Saturday at 10am at Sooke fields.

If it continues to pour with rain then our soccer game will likely be cancelled:(

If it dries out a bit I'll see you all on Saturday morning at 9:30:)  (except for Alana who will be mountain biking in the mud!...AWESOME!  Have fun Alana)

Hello!!!!

***update***fields are closed***no practice tonight***

It seems like so long ago that we were on the soccer field together!  OK, it's only been a week...However the fields are currently closed so please check the field conditions before you head out tonight.

We did get quite a bit of rain last night so it is doubtful that they will be open for tonight.

The club will be announcing some gymnasium info at a meeting tonight so we'll try to make sure going forward that we'll at least be able to practice when the fields close.

This week in soccer

First of all...Congratulations to the UVIC Vikes Mens soccer team for winning the CIS national championships this weekend on home soil!  Some very good soccer action against some top level university teams!  UVIC are now the champs!!!

Also, Victoria Highlanders FC season tickets are now on sale for their upcoming season.  $84 gets you a season ticket to watch all mens and womens games and kids under 12 get in for free!  This should be the level that our local soccer players strive to be at one day!  It's a great level of soccer to watch and the family friendly crowds make it very exciting to be a part of!  Further to that, with each season ticket sold this year (1st 1500) you become an OWNER of the team.  The current ownership is creating a community owned soccer club.  Let me know if you'd like more info or simply click HERE for details.  This could be an easy way to do some Christmas shopping:)

Now the Tidalwaves news:)
The fields are currently closed.  If it stops raining we should be ok for a Tuesday practice.  If it keeps raining the fields will stay closed.  We are working on some gym time for Tuesday nights so as soon as we get that info, Kim will send out an email and we'll also post it up here.

At this point, we're going to go to one practice per week until the new year and the weather gets better.  This age group usually only practices once per week anyway but we wanted to get some extra time in to kick off the season and get some extra work in which has gone very well for us.  So starting this week, we'll be practicing Tuesday's only.

Check the field status in the morning!

Hey guys!

With all of this rain we've had in the last 24 hrs please make sure you check the field status before you head to the field in the morning...

We're scheduled to play the Peninsula Strikers at 10AM at our home field.  Please be there by 9:30 to get a proper warm up.
Players, please let your parents know that it is important to get your legs and bodies warm so that you're ready to play when the whistle blows.  It's also a great idea during warm up to get your foot on the ball at least 50-100 times before the game starts so that you are able to make some good passes right away.

See you all in the morning.  We may need to parental assistance to set the fields up so hopefully some of you are ready for that;)

Have a great night!

Good morning...sorry for the late post:)

You all have an email with the time and location already so we'll see you at 9:30 this morning at Glanford park.  Easy to get there.  Head in the trans-canada, make a left on mckenzi, about 5 minutes down mckenzie make a left on Glanford.  You'll see Glanford park a couple of blocks up on the right hand side.  You can turn down Kenneth and park behind the field.

Hey everyone.  Due to the rainfall last night and today it seems that the fields are waterlogged and Sooke Soccer has closed them.

There will be no practice tonight...

Game Saturday

OK Tidalwaves!  It's game time!

Home game at our fields.  Game time is 10am...please be there at 9:30 for warm up.

We'll need some help setting up the nets before the game so maybe even pull up a little earlier to help out?  Paul and Nigel will be running the show for the day so please listen to what they're asking.

Spread out, use the whole space, pass to your own team, use the wings and goalies, remember, the goal crease belongs to you!  Defend it, challenge the other team if they come into your space with the ball!  And when taking goal kicks or drop kicks, use your whole box and do not kick from your goal.  Take the ball out as far as the ref lets you.

Have a great game and a very safe and happy thanksgiving long weekend!

For those down at the Marathon on Sunday morning I'll see you there!

Hampton Park

Here is a map to Hampton park.  Take the Burnside turn off, go across Tillicum and make a left on Orillia.  Parking will likely be tough so get there early.  Please be there by 9:15 so we can warm our legs up and be ready to play a great game!  Game time is 9:45am:)

GO TIDALWAVES!!!!

Awesome work!

Great job at practice Tuesday night!  Some very good passing and some pretty good tackles out there too! (how's your ankle Sid?)

Keep up the effort my little super stars and we'll be ready for our game this weekend!  Just remember to spreadout when calling for passes and don't run too close to your teammate that has the ball because sometimes you can get in the way of there awesome deke moves;)
Oh, and when shooting, don't shoot right at the goalie, try to aim your shot into the corner!  (especially when you come across a hot goalie like we saw last night;)

Hopefully you are all happy with your numbers, socks, shorts etc and we'll see you on Thursday night!

Team changes ***update***

Hey Tidalwaves fans and players!

Every year the club has to find room for every player that registers.  Sometimes there are not enough players in a certain age bracket to form a team so they are forced to combine age groups to form a team.  It can be tricky because you don't want too many players on a roster otherwise playing time in games is less than half.  You also can't have too few due to illness and schedule conflicts throughout the season where you end up being short on players.

This year we had the u8-9's join in with us to start the training because there were only 4 of them at the time.  That put our numbers at 15 which is too many for this age group as we only play 6 aside games.  The club has managed to put together a u9 girls team which is great for everyone.  Our u10's now have 10 (maybe 11) and the u9's have a full team as well.

Sadly, we'll be parting ways with the u9's and I wish them luck this season...I'm sure it will be a blast for them.

I also wish to thank Lily for her awesome participation with the Tidalwaves as she will be playing in her age group this year with the u9's.  We'll miss you Lily but i'm sure we'll see you on the field and we'll all be cheering for you!
***CORRECTION*** due to a slight paperwork error it seems we got info on the wrong Lily!  As it turns out, We get to keep our Lily afterall!  WOOHOOO!  Just please make sure she gets registered asap;)

To the rest of our amazing u10's, the show must go on and I'll see you out on the field tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 6pm.  I have your uniforms which I'll hand out AFTER our practice;)

Thursday, September 22, 2011

No practice tonight

As discussed on Tuesday, there will be no practice on Thursday (tonight).
Kim and I found out that our first game will be on October 1st but we won't know when and where until the Lower Island Soccer Assoc. (LISA) releases the schedule.  At this point, many clubs are still adjusting teams so before LISA does the scheduling, they need to have the final info from each club.

I do, however, have our uniforms and I'll bring those out on Tuesday for you.  New players will get socks and shorts to keep and returning players should already have shorts and socks from last year.  If you do not and need to purchase more, please contact the club or let me know and I'll see how I can help.

Have a great weekend and see you Tuesday!

No schedule yet...

Well we should be expecting to see a schedule out soon but nothing yet:(  We'll have more info after a club coaches/managers meeting tomorrow night here in Sooke.

And we'll try to get our uniforms too!!!

See you all tomorrow night! 6-7, don't be late;)

Great first practice

Good job on the first practice everyone!  Looking good!

We'll see you out at the field tomorrow (Thursday) from 6-7.

For those of you still needing to register, please click on the link on the left side of this blog site and go to Sook Soccer.  Print off the form, fill it out and bring that to the club with your cheque and then you're done:)

Kim and I will make sure you guys have your uniforms soon but in the meantime, please make sure you dress for soccer with cleats (preferrably tied up;) and shin pads.

If there are any photography types within our team please let me know and we can use your expertise to fill this site with some cool action shots of the kids playing 'the beautiful game'.

Gonna be a great season!  I can feel it!!!

Practice tonight

Hey everyone.  Yes, we will be on the field tonight from 6-7.  We'll use the field closest to the main road.  There might be a couple teams on the field so just come out and you'll find us:)

Please make sure you're wearing your cleats, shinpads, soccer shorts and shirt...Basically, if we can look like a 'soccer player' we're halfway there;)  Also bring your water bottles as you'll be working tonight!

Parents, it's ok if you'd like to drop your players off for practice and run your errands, go for a coffee, or nap in your car;)  but I would like to have a chat with you for a few minutes after practice while the kids cooldown to go over a couple things.

A new season is upon us!

Welcome back to all of our returning Tidalwaves! And a big welcome to new players joining us this year:)
Last year was year one for us and we really came a long way with our passing and game shape.  We worked a lot on positioning and passing around to use the whole field and its space.  There was a huge difference from the beginning to the end of the season in how we played...It was amazing!

This year will be no different.  We'll continue to develop the basic skills of the game (passing and receiving) as well as individual ball mastery using some cool dekes and feints to fool the other team:)  As well, we'll really work hard on using our shape so we can pass the ball around and let it do the work.

It should be a lot of fun and I hope you're all looking forward to the big U10 season this year:)

I'd like to welcome Kim Cumming as our team Manager this year.  She'll be doing the game day coordination as well as handling things like uniforms and schedules.  As always though, we'll make sure any pertinant info is posted here for you.

Last day of registration is Today!

Hey everyone!

Looking forward to another great soccer season?  Please make sure you contact the Sooke Soccer club today.  This year we move into the big U10 division!!! woohoo!

Hopefully we see you all out there soon:)

Practice!

Hey Tidalwaves!  I know there's a Canucks game on the tube tonight but as discussed previously, when the fields are open, we'll continue to scrimmage each Tuesday!

It seems as though the fields are open tonight so Alexa and I will be down there at 6pm.  Whomever is able to make it down there we would love the company:)  We'll be keeping it to a scrimmage game.  If there are any parents that want to join in, gear up and play!

If you could please bring any outstanding jerseys tonight that'd be great!  I'll have the team pictures and tax receipts!

See you at 6!

Game tomorrow...Last one?!?

Hey guys!  Game is on tomorrow at 9:30am at Layritz park!  We're on the turf so no need to check the site unless we get some nasty torrential storm that hits us.

Hopefully my map is helpful...Basically turn off of the #1 onto helmcken, make a left onto interurban and make a right immediately after Camosun College.  Circle around the tech park and you'll see the parking lot.  Lots of parking!  Maybe give yourselves some extra time to get there and hopefully see you all at 9am for warm ups!

Fields are open!!!!

Ok everyone, game on! See you all at Beckwith park at 10:30!

If the fields ever open...

Hey guys!

We're scheduled for a game tomorrow against Lakehill.  The game is away at Beckwith park.  We've played there before against Lakehill and we won in a stunning 3-2 game:)
The game is scheduled for 11am however the fields are currently closed.  They will update the field status page at about 8am tomorrow morning and as soon as I see the update I will post it right here!

So plan for a game, make sure our little superstars get a good sleep and a healthy breakfast as the Lakehill people feel the fields will likely open.  Let's hope so!!!

But please, before you leave in the morning check back here for the update.  If the game is a go, please try to be at the field by 10:30am.  Beckwith is the park just off the pat bay hiway at high quadra.

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

check the fields...

I'm still waiting to see the field status for today.  If the club opens the fields we'll be out there:)

They seem to update the status around 5pm so please check then.

Thanks!
